Midjourney
The art-school heavyweight with a signature look you can spot across the room.
Midjourney is the aesthete of the image-model world. By its v7 era it remains the model artists reach for when the goal is not accuracy but beauty: painterly light, rich color harmonies, compositions that look art-directed by default. Its web editor, fast drafts mode and omni-reference (for carrying a character or object across images) turned what was once a quirky Discord bot into a real creative studio.
The trade-off is control. Midjourney treats your prompt as inspiration, not instruction — it beautifies rather than obeys. Ask for a specific layout with specific text and you will often get something gorgeous and wrong. Choose Midjourney for mood boards, album art, worldbuilding and anything where 'stunning' matters more than 'exact'. Choose Imagen 3 or FLUX when a client brief says exactly this, exactly so — their literal prompt adherence and text rendering are clearly stronger.
Other honest caveats: it is subscription-only with no official API, which rules it out of automated pipelines, and its distinctive default look can make outputs feel recognizably 'Midjourney' when you wanted neutral. For prompt-faithful generation inside an actual workflow — with editing, upscaling and automation attached — VAR2's Create Image is the pragmatic path, and the aesthetic vocabulary you learn from Midjourney transfers directly.
