Stem

audio

An isolated layer of a song — vocals, drums, bass, or instruments — separated from the full mix. Stems are how producers remix and rebalance music: mute the vocal stem for a karaoke track, keep only the drums under a voiceover, or swap the bassline entirely. AI can both generate stems and extract them from finished songs with striking accuracy. For video creators, stems solve a constant problem: your AI-generated track is great, but the vocals fight your narration — pull the instrumental stem and both can coexist peacefully in the mix.
